GEORGIA 4-H HORSE PROGRAMS

Georgia 4-H Horse Programs offer opportunities for youth to become involved in the care, health, equipment, and showing of horses. Projects and competitions allow for participation with or without a horse and focus on developing horse knowledge, skills, and safety.

The 4-H Horse Program is one of the most exciting and enjoyable facets of Georgia 4-H, a youth development program offered by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. You can obtain information in your county pertaining to the 4-H Horse Program as well as other exciting educational opportunities. The statewide 4-H Horse Program is coordinated by Kate Whiting and is a cooperative effort of the 4-H and Youth Department and the Animal and Dairy Science Department. Competitive events include the State 4-H Horse Show, statewide 4-H Horse Judging competitions and 4-H Quiz Bowls. Educational learning opportunities are offered at 4-H Horse School, Volunteer Leader training and a variety of other workshops and clinics. Each county in Georgia can supply you with information about these programs; however not every county in Georgia has an organized 4-H Horse Club. Many counties do offer a 4-H Horse club for their 4-H’ers interested in equine-related programs and information. The schedule and activities in the county 4-H horse clubs are not governed by the State 4-H office and will differ from county to county.
