Facilities

The Burton 4-H Center is located on a 6-acre hammock surrounded by acres of salt marsh at the end of Lewis Avenue on Tybee Island, Georgia. Tybee Island is the northernmost barrier island in Georgia. Connected to the mainland by Highway 80, Tybee Island is approximately 15 miles east of the historic town of Savannah, Georgia.

Grounds

Burton 4-H Center’s boundaries are clearly defined by the surrounding marshlands. A basketball court, volleyball court, shaded picnic tables and a small gazebo are all centrally located for easy and effective free-time supervision. For a more reflective time, groups can enjoy the boardwalk that leads over the marsh.

Buildings

We have several dormitories, a dining hall with a full kitchen, various staff housing units (including camp manager’s home), an A-frame (2 classrooms), and a screened recreation hall.

Dormitories

The dormitories are climate-controlled block buildings with 8-26 bunk beds. Each dormitory bathroom has flush toilets, sinks, and shower stalls. Each dorm also has a small private room and bath for two adults.

Dormitories are assigned according to the attendance numbers listed on the contract. Males and females are housed in separate dorms. Each dorm must have an adult chaperone. We do not have accommodations for professional bus drivers. Call the Chamber of Commerce at (912) 786-5444 for a listing of inexpensive motels on the island.

Note: No food or drinks are allowed in the dormitories.

Wheelchair Accessibility

The dining hall and two dormitories are wheelchair accessible. Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible. With a strong adult to assist, wheelchair-bound students can fully participate in all programs.
