17th Annual Tidelands Art Sale & Auction

Sun. Feb. 17th, 2019   10:00am- 4:00pm 

at The Jekyll Morgan Center

Mark your calendars for the 17th annual 4-H Tidelands Nature Center ‘Art Inspired by Nature’ Sale, Sunday February 17th, 2019. The annual event features an eclectic array of artwork created by talented artists from our coastal Georgia area, displaying their coastal- themed art for sale. Look for your favorites  from Jekyll, St. Simon’s, Brunswick, Camden, and McIntosh displaying paintings, pottery, hand-made jewelry, metal sculptures, photographs, books, bake goods, hand-made soaps, and more!

Be sure to stop in and find your favorite treasures created by our talented artists! And while browsing, be sure to check out our silent auction area, featuring items donated by some of our artists as well as community organizations. Silent auction items include jewelry, pottery, books, photographs, hotel accommodations, restaurant gift certificates, dolphin tours, kayak tours, and more!!


Summer Programs 2018


While visiting Jekyll this summer, be sure to check out our fun-filled, family oriented programs.  4-H Tidelands offers great summer-time learning experiences for all ages. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate (Except for Day Camp). Reservations required. Please call Tidelands @ 912-635-5032.


Nature Walks at Various Locations around Jekyll Island

Explore Jekyll’s beach, forest, and marsh. Let one of our experience guides share with you Jekyll’s natural landscape and wildlife. On Mondays visit Clam Creek picnic area and learn about the beach and marsh. On Wednesdays explore the beach and forest at St. Andrews Picnic area. On Fridays discover the beach and forest at South Dunes picnic area. Meets March-October: 9:00am @ the walk site. Cost: $7 adult, $5 youth.


Go Fish! (Rod and Reel Fishing Program)

Join us for a fishing adventure! We will provide all of the gear, bait, and know-how. Learn techniques such as baiting the hook, gear selection, and casting as we try to catch some fish. Meets on Tuesdays in June & July: 9:00-10:00am @ Tidelands. Cost: $7.00 per person.


Creepy Crawlers

Get an up-close and personal introduction to our reptile friends! Discover the differences between reptiles and amphibians, venomous and non-venomous snakes, and alligators and crocodiles. Meets Thursdays in June & July: 9:00-10:00am @ Tidelands. Cost: $7.00 per person.


Mid-Morning Brunch (Live Exhibit Feeding Program) 

Join us as we learn about marine food webs & feeding adaptations. Watch/help feed our educational ambassadors. Includes 20 minute talk- then its brunch time for the critters! Meets Mondays & Wednesdays in June & July: 10:45am-11:45am @Tidelands. Cost: $7.00 per person.


Summer Seining at South Dunes

Learn to use a seine net to catch fish, shrimp, crabs, etc. Participants should wear clothes/shoes for knee deep wading. Meets Tuesdays in June & July: 10:45am-11:45am @ South Dunes Picnic Area. Cost: $7.00 per person.


Bed, Bath, and Beyond

Find out what it takes to keep all of our animals happy, healthy, and clean. Learn about animal husbandry by lending us a helping hand as we take care of our live exhibit enclosures! Meets Thursdays in June & July: 10:45-11:45am @ Tidelands. Cost: $7.00 per person.


Stars on the Water: Astronomy Nights at Tidelands Nature Center

Great opportunity to enjoy the night skies. View stars and planets via telescope. Program begins at sunset with an audio-visual presentation. Meets select Wednesdays: June 6th & 20th, July 11th & 25th from 9:00-10:00pm on the deck @ Tidelands. Cost $7.00 per person.


Coastal Explorers at Tidelands Nature Center (Coastal Program themes vary each week!)

Children 4-10 are introduced to coastal ecology themes. Explore native animals/ecosystems. Most days include making a related craft to take home. Meets every Friday morning: June 1st – July 27th; 10:45am-11:45am @ Tidelands. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $7.00 per youth ($5.00 for adults).


June 1st – Seaside Story

What kind of animal is that with a hard covering that you might find on the beach? A Snail? A Clam? A Crab? Learn about different types of snails, clams, crabs, and other invertebrate organisms found down by the sea.


June 8th – Awesome Avians

Learn about bird characteristics, behaviors, feeding adaptations as we explore some of our feathered friends that live around the Tidelands pond! Binoculars and field guides provided for class.


June 15th – Celebrate Sea Turtles!

Learn all about the life cycle of the loggerhead sea turtles that nest here on Jekyll. Lean fun facts about other sea turtles species swimming in our nearby waters. What are the threats to sea turtles’ survival?


June 22nd- What’s up Dock?

Join us for “belly biology” on the dock! Use dip nets to collect organisms dwelling in the fouling community around the dock. Get up close and explore how these dockside critters live and feed.


June 29th– Keystone Connections

Learn about keystone species and their important connections to the survival of other organisms within ecosystems in which they live.  Meet Tidelands’ resident keystone species.


July 6th – Marsh Madness

Periwinkle snails, sea pickles, and fiddler crabs, oh my!  Prepare to get dirty as we visit the salt marsh around the Tidelands pond.


July 13th – Fossil Finds

What kind of fossils might be buried along a barrier island’s shores? Search for fossils and see if you can figure out which animals they used to belong to. Make your own fossil and take home a shark tooth!


July 20th- Canoe Buddies

Buddy up with 1 or 2 other people and paddle a canoe around the pond! Before we head out on the water, learn how to work with others with some fun team building games and activities.


July 27th– What’s in the Water?

Learn what it takes to keep our water clean. “Pollute” our Enviro-scape then see if you can clean the water!


Boats & Biology

Ever wanted to try out a canoe, kayak, or aquabike? Join us for a paddle (or peddle) while learning about some of the organisms that live in and around our Tidelands pond. Meets select Fridays: June 22nd & July 20th; 10:00am-12:00pm @ Tidelands. Cost $15 per person. Some time limits and age restrictions apply:


Canoes: Anyone that can wear a life jacket and swim can paddle a canoe! Kayaks: Ages 8-12 can test out a tandem (2 person) kayak with an adult and anyone 13 and up can try a single. Aquabikes: A bike on water! Ages 8-12 can pedal the tandem with an adult and anyone 13 and up can pedal a single.



Discovery Day Camp at Tidelands Nature Center (Coastal program theme varies each day!)

Our day camps are open to the public and available for children 8-12 years old.  Day camps are held Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am-3:00 pm*, during the last weeks of June and July. Offered: June 18th-21st and July 16th -19th. Children can participate in a single day or sign up for several days. *Each day is $45 and you will receive a $20 discount if you sign your child up for 4 days. Includes field trips, games, crafts, and more.  (*Boat trip with Captain Phillip an additional $12) Themes vary each day:

Monday- Forest Friends Get hands-on with reptiles, investigate insects, & go birding. It’s a nature safari!

Tuesday- Salt Pond SleuthsDip for invertebrates, explore the marsh, & paddle a canoe in Tidelands’ salt pond.

Wednesday- Sand, Surf, & ShellsSpend the day on the beach, learn to use seine net & go beachcombing!

Thursday- Super Sharks & Fantastic Fins Go fishing, enjoy a boat trip with Captain Phillip! (Ends at 3:30pm*)
