Safe and healthy chicken, grilled to perfection!

Chicken Barbecue is the ultimate chicken grilling contest in Georgia 4-H. Through this contest, youth acquire scientific knowledge and an improved understanding of the economy, versatility, and nutritional value of chicken meat and its relationship to human nutrition and health.

During a specified time limit, youth will use charcoal grills and prepare chicken thighs for sensory evaluation by judges.  Youth will also be scored for their ability to start and maintain their fire safely throughout cooking.  Additionally, youth share an oral presentation about chicken preparation and safety, nutrition, and the broiler industry.

The Georgia 4-H Chicken BBQ Contest has two divisions: Junior (7-8 graders) and Senior (9-12 graders).  Each county may have up to 2 youth per division enter the state contest at Rock Eagle in September.
