RE: G4-HVLA Association 4-H & Family Ski Weekend                                             February 22-24, 2008
        Asheville, North Carolina

PREREGISTRATION DUE: January 30th (first come, first serve)

The Georgia 4-H Volunteer Leader Association cordially invites 4-H groups and families to join in a weekend of fun and snow at this year's Ski Weekend. This is a unique opportunity for Georgia 4-H'ers and their families. This year's trip will be hosted by G4-HVLA.

Your county has several options for promoting and registering for the weekend.

The ski weekend can be an expensive activity. However, through group rates, G4-HVLA is able to offer the trip at considerable savings. The rate for the weekend is $125 per person skiing and $140 per person snowboarding with the package including: Other expenses including some meals and transportation are additional. A breakfast buffet (served 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.) is available with the hotel reservations. We do not encourage non-skiing 4-H'ers for the weekend; therefore, there is no reduced rate. However, adult chaperones who do not wish to ski will have their fees reduced  for a price of $75.

Participants wishing to rent snowboards in place of skis and/or apparrel for skiing can do so through the same company we are skiing with.  The cost is approximately $14 for snowboards, $15 for jacket/bib combination, $8 for bibs and $8 for a jacket.  If you are planning to rent any of the additional equipment, please be sure to include this on the registration  site.

County groups or families wishing to ski Friday night or Sunday should contact Tim Walker of Carolina Tours by phone at 1-800-285-7273. In talking with Mr. Walker, be sure to let him know that you are calling in reference to the Georgia 4-H group. G4-HVLA will make arrangements for the basic ski package above but will not provide coordination beyond Sunday morning. Please plan your adult leadership accordingly.

Please keep in mind that county groups must by chaperoned by 4-H Certified Overnight Chaperones. Each adult with your county group must meet this requirement. Families wishing to attend that will have only family members in their group do not have to meet the same guidelines. These adults will not be asked to fill supervisory roles during the weekend; however, they will be asked to follow the same adult guidelines as others in our group.

ALLREGISTRATION AND DEPOSITS ($1/2 the fee) ARE DUE NO LATER THAN January 30th. Please use the online registration site to register your 4-H'ers or families.  Please make checks payable to the Georgia 4-H Foundation. The trip is offered on a first come, first served basis with limited space. Groups and families are not considered registered without a deposit per person and complete online registration. Refunds will be made only if the ski area has a "no snow" condition. A "no snow" condition is determined by the ski resort. If lifts are open, then even limited snow is considered "skiable" and the trip will go on as planned.

Registration and deposits should be mailed to:

TIPS FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION

  • Be sure that you have all of the information needed for online registration. You will need to indicate skier, nonskier, snowboarder on the registration site as well as whether you are making the deposit or full payment.

  •
  • You will assign housing within your group. Group housing is indicated by  the first three letters of your county name and your room number. For example a Clarke County group would be CLA1 (for those housed in your first room) CLA2 (for those housed in your second for second room).  For 4-H groups, youth and adults may not share rooms. In families, this is permissable.

  •
  • You will also find attributes that indicate 4-H group or family group. Each person must be designated as one or the other. For 4-H groups, additional 4-H group members (youth with youth, adult with adult) may be housed in the room if your room is not full. We want to have four youth or two adults in each room.  Your county delegation may have some 4-H group members and family group members. For example. If the Jordan family is attending from Clarke County, each member of the family (Gavin, Jenny, Ansley & Hunter) would be registered as a family group member. Jenny would be housed in CLA1, Ansley in CLA1, Gavin in CLA1, and Hunter in CLA1. This is a mixed group of youth and adults. Also attending may be the Elizabeth (CEA) and Mildred (Prog. Asst) They would be registered as 4-H group members and housed each in CLA2, CLA2. 4-H'ers Joseph, Alex and Charles would be registered as 4-H group members and housed as CLA3 (for each young man).
