The 9th Annual Leadership Day in Georgia , sponsored by the Department of Community Afffairs and the Georgia Rural Development Council (GRDC) will be held at the Georgia Freight Depot In Atlanta. Please follow the above link for directions.
65 Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive
Atlanta, Georgia 30334
You may want to park in the Underground Atlanta parking deck, whichis right next door.
The keynote speaker for the day will be Coach Bill Curry, former NFL player, national sports analyst and coach of the Georgia State Panthers.
Leadership Day is a time when leaders from all across Georgia come together to share best practices and success stories and identify ways to improve leadership efforts in Georgia . Combined with 4-H Day at the Capitol, it provides 4-H'ers an opportunity to learn about all the leadership opportunities offered in their communities, listen to great speakers, tour the state capitol and meet with their representatives.
Reservations and Registration Fees:
Please register your entire county group online (Georgia 4-H website/ Event Registration). The first 300 reservations will be guaranteed lunch and space at the Depot. If we exceed our number, notification will be made for those that need to join us at the Capitol. The 4-H Day Event Registration site will be closed after Monday, February 1.
We ask that you pay a $2.00 per person (youth and adults) registration fee. Please send a check payable to the Georgia 4-H Foundation no later than February 1, 2010. This will help defray costs associated with the event.
Be sure to let your General Assembly member know that your group is going to be at the Capitol. They likely can meet you at some point for a photo.
Schedule for the Day (Abbreviated):

***We will post a tentative agenda for the day and provide updates as we get closer to the actual date.
Schedule for Leadership Day/4-H Day at the Capitol
School Excuse Letter - With Letterhead Included
School Excuse Letter- Print On Your Own Letterhead
Nametags:
Leadership Day coordinators have requested that 4-H’ers and leaders wear nametags to this event. The nametag should include the person’s name and county. 4-H staff registering 4-H’ers at the Depot will have stick-on nametags and Sharpies available; however, your group will have “easier to read” and better looking tags if you prepare them at your office. No specific type is required.
Honorees:
A separate email was sent to certain CEAs requesting information on the 4-H’ers who will be recognized during 4-H Day activities at the Capitol. The deadline for responding to that request is January 12 (we’ve already heard from several).
Parking:
Available at Underground Atlanta. Be sure you know the heigth/clearance of your vehicle. Most of the parking in the area is located within parking decks which may not accomodate some mini buses or other vehicles.
Pages:
1) Pages must first be registered by counties with their local representatives. To schedule a page for the day, contact your local representative or senator. You may also pursue scheduling pages for other days during the session. Click here for information on registering: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2009_10/house/Page/Page.htm
2) Once they are approved, counties should note which 4-H'ers are pages for the day online and when they check in at the depot. There is a limit to the number of pages that can be accommodated. Don't assume that everyone of your 4-H'ers can page.
3) Each page should bring an index card with the name of the legislator he or she is paging for and if they are assigned to the House or Senate. Members of the 4-H Staff will coordinate 4-H’ers who are paging, escort them to the capitol and sign them in at the House and Senate Page Desks.
4) The chaperone should keep the personal belongings of the page, as there is nowhere to store coats and purses.
4-H Polo Shirts:
If your county reserved shirts for pick-up, they will be distributed at Registration. The shirts can be returned via mail or purchased. Any shirts not returned will be billed to the county at the rate of $14.00 each. Check should be made payable to Georgia 4-H Foundation. For information on buying or borrowing shirts, please contact Lindsey Fodor at the State 4-H Office. 706-542-7832 or fodor@uga.edu.
Entering the Capitol:
There are several entrances open. All of them have security check points. Plan accordingly by limiting metal items.
Visits:
It is appropriate and advisable to stop by your legislator's office and leave a note or visit if possible.
If 4-H members get lost they should report to Capitol Security and inform them they are with 4-H
