The Leadership in Action program is designed to recognize the work of Junior (7th-8th) and Senior (9th-12th) 4-H'ers as leaders in their communities. 4-H'ers will identify an issue or need in the community or an issue related to agriculture or the environment. Once this issue or need has been selected, the 4-H'er will determine ways to make a difference and then inact his/her plan.  The process focuses on leadership engagment by the 4-H'er

4-H'ers complete Part I of the application for recognition certificates and Part II of the application for state recognition and competition.  Competition is optional. 4-H'ers who meet requirements will receive recogntion.

Applications are due April 3rd.   Registration must be completed on line by the county Extension office by 5 p.m. April 3rd and original documents postmarked the 3rd Late submissions may not be considered.

Required Cover Page for all Applicants

Part I of Application (required for local recognition) includes description of the situation (the need/issue being addressed), response to the need or issue, impact of the project and evaluation from the 4-H'ers perspective.  Each section of the application has maximum word legnth and is described further in the 4-H Activities & Award Guidebook and the Program Handbook below.
 

Part II of Application (required for state recogntion) includes two pages of supporting material and a letter of recommendation from someone in the community that knows of the work submitted.  The letter can not be written by the county Extension agent or a family member.

Certificates  will be distributed through the County Extension office to all 4-H'ers who meet requirements for part one and/or part two. 
 

Juniors completing part II are also eligible for state competition. Competition includes review of the applications and selection of eight winners.

Seniors completing part II must indicated on the cover page interest in the copetition (interview phase) Applications will be screened and district contests will be held with two 4-H'ers per district advancing to State 4-H Congress for competition. At State 4-H Congress, two state winners will be announced and may select trips to National 4-H Conference or $500 scholarships.

Interview Schedule for April 16
The interview schedule will be posted no later than 7th. Senior 4-H'ers interviewing for recognition should be available for interviews as early as 2:30 p.m. and as late as 6:00 p.m. We will work to have interviews begin as late in the afternoon as possible. If you have a significant interview conflict and will need a specific slot, please contact Jenny Jordan. We can not guarantee all interview time requests but will work with counties and 4-H'ers as we can.
