Striving for Excellence in 4-H Program Evaluation
Pre-Conference Workshops to the NAE4-HA Annual Conference

Participants will develop and advance their skills in using program evaluation for program improvement and impact reporting. This pre-conference has two concurrent tracks. The first track is targeted to evaluation beginners, and it will introduce NAE4-HA members to program evaluation in 4-H youth development programs. The second track will be for NAE4-HA members who have an intermediate level of knowledge and skills in program evaluation and wish to advance their knowledge and build the capacity of their organization. This pre-conference will focus on practical, applied solutions to program evaluation problems.

Track One – $75
Evaluation at the Local Level: Where to Start, What to Do!
Sunday, October 21, 2007
8 am - 5 pm

This all day workshop will develop and advance the participants’ skills in select basics of evaluation related to the “doing” and the “write-up,” referenced to the logic model. The participants will explore fundamentals including defining purpose, appropriate methodology(ies), data gathering, and straightforward analysis/presentation of data related to evaluation goals and responses to different stakeholder groups. The workshop will emphasize a hands-on, cooperative learning approach. We will explore evaluation from a diversity of delivery modes considering evaluation for traditional and nontraditional programs. Participants will use existing “authentic” data (e.g., ES-237 information and data collected by county level Extension faculty) for practice and as models for various evaluation tasks. Each participant will receive a package of materials, articles, and samples.

Track Two – $85
Building Greater Evaluation Capacity
