4-H Afterschool: Realizing the Possibilities
A Pre-Conference to the NAE4-HA National Conference

Saturday October 20 & Sunday October 21, 2007

12 noon through 12 noon
Registration fee: $100.00

Realize the possibilities that after-school programming can offer to the youth in your county and state
4-H program.  New or experienced…with three tracks: Funding, Collaboration/Partnerships, and Effective Programs & Curricula, the participant will find that there is plenty of information to help expand their 4-H program. Saturday will include a keynote speaker, concurrent workshops, poster session and Sunday will include a breakfast speaker and concurrent workshops.

  • Funding – Funding opportunities that support the initiation and sustainability of after-school efforts – including collaborative youth development programs, after-school staff training, the introduction and utilization of 4-H curricula, and the formation of 4-H clubs in after-school programs.
  • Collaboration/Partnerships – Opportunities for collaboration and partnering with after-school providers and organizations - including schools, parks and recreation, other youth serving organizations (Boys and Girls Club, YMCA/YWCA, etc.), and state or local after-school networks.  Effective methods for developing and sustaining these collaborations and partnerships with a focus on showcasing successful local efforts.
  • Effective Programs and Curricula – Proven programs and curricula for after-school and summer learning environments – as related to our mission mandates of science, engineering, and technology (SET); healthy living; and citizenship. A special interest in programs and curricula that address the uniqueness of program delivery in an after-school environment; those that include teens and others as volunteers; and those that provide high quality training to after-school staff.

Meal Information: Please eat before coming on Saturday.  A mid-day, Natural Body and Mind themed snack will be provided with fresh fruit skewers, dried fruits, fruit bars and smoothies.  A full breakfast buffet will be served Sunday.
