Essential Elements of 4-H: Mastery, Belonging, Independence, and Generosity


Research validates that all young people have certain developmental needs. 4-H is uniquely positioned to meet needs that are addressed in the discussion of Essential Elements. Nationwide 4-H has embraced programming that is centered on four Essential Elements.

In Georgia we ask every 4-H leader to be certain that the program offered in their location includes opportunities to enhance the development of these elements. A presentation outlining the components of the Essential Elements of 4-H can be found at
