Burke County Teams Take Top Senior, Junior Wildlife Honors
Submitted by: Charlie Wurst

Congratulations to Burke County, winner of the 2017 State 4-H Wildlife Judging Contest, held Saturday, October 21, at Fortson 4-H Center.  Hannah Eckerman, Andrew Eckerman, and Morgan Brantley will represent Georgia 4-H at the National Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) contest in Maine in the summer of 2018.  Gabriel Whitlock of Spalding County was High Senior Individual in this year’s event.  It was a great day for Burke County as their Junior team – Tony Gray, Avery Wiggins, Mary Helen Coble, and Christine Eberly – won the Junior contest, with Breana Manning of Gordon County taking High Junior Individual honors.

Special thanks go out to:

•             The 4-H’ers and certified Wildlife coaches for their preparation for Saturday’s contest.

•             Dr. Mark McConnell, Extension Wildlife Specialist from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at UGA, for setting up this year’s contest.

•             Steve Walker, 4-H IT Specialist, for his assistance in running this year’s state contest.

•             Alex Bond and the staff at Fortson 4-H Center for their help in preparing for and hosting this year’s contest.

•             Former Walton Co. agent Glen Blair for his special assistance and leadership in the certified coaches training events this past year.
