2010 State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest a Success

The 2010 Georgia 4-H State Livestock Judging Contest was held at the UGA Livestock Arena on Saturday, March 27th.  38 Juniors (8 Teams) and 37 Seniors (9 Teams) participated in the contest, which helps young people acquire a better knowledge of livestock and develop skill in selecting good livestock; learn to identify breeds and classes of livestock and help improve livestock on the farm; and learn how to make individual decisions and support them with oral statements.

The first place Junior team is from Gordon County; team members are Anneke Carr, Makayla Holmes, Caleb Carr and Will McDaniel.  Anneke Carr also took home honors as the High Individual in the Junior division. Monroe County’s Junior team placed second, and Bartow County was third.

Bartow County was the first place Senior judging team and will have the opportunity to represent Georgia at the National 4-H Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky.  Bartow County Team members (pictured above with agent/coach Greg Bowman) are Gibson Priest, Melissa Bartlett, Emily Pike, and Sarah Margaret Vaughan.  Gibson Priest was the Senior High Individual. Carroll County placed second and has the opportunity to represent Georgia at the American Royal in Kansas CityMitchell County received third place honors.
