Fantastic 4-H'er: This week’s Fantastic 4-Her is Haley Cook. Haley is a 10th grade 4-Her from Heard County. Her main project areas are State Livestock Program (Market Lambs and Market Hogs), S.A.F.E. Project (22 Rim Fire), Cotton Boll and Consumer Jamboree, Poultry Judging, Project Achievement (Sheep & Meat Goats and Pork Production), Community Service projects, and the Extension Leadership System (ELS). Haley’s 4-H highlights include being named the Heard County Senior 4-H'er of the Year, Grand Champion Market Hog at the Gwinnett County Fair, Reserve Grand Champion Market Guilt at the Georgia National Fair, Grand Champion Market Lamb at the Clebume County Invitational, and 4 time District Project winner. Haley says that her involvement in 4-H has helped develop her communication skills along with learning numerous life skills such as responsibility, self motivation, ethics, sportsmanship, and discipline. She also says “I have learned that you must be dedicated and passionate about what you put your heart into. By doing so, you are giving 100% and doing your best to "make the best better."” Haley’s favorite 4-H memory was last year when she won her first Grand Champion ribbon at the Gwinnett County Fair Market Hog Show. “I felt honored and that all of my years of hard work had been rewarded. I will never forget the feeling at that exact moment when the judge shook my hand in the final drive to signify my hog was the Grand Champion.” Haley wishes others knew that “4-H is not just a club but an opportunity to help others and yourself by using your head, heart, hands and health. You also make life-long friendships and connections that will help you during your high school career and beyond.” After high school, Haley plans to attend college and major in Agriculture or Legal Studies.
